A Summer That Can Change Your Life

When author Tom Hazuka spoke to us in March on behalf of Central Connecticut State University and said he'd like a book published for June, our first thought was "June 2019? Absolutely." No, June 2018. Manuscript delivery: April 1, 2018. Printing date: end of May. Less than two months. Many publishers would've said "impossible." Average turnaround time for most presses is 12 months from submission to publication. We saw only opportunity to challenge ourselves and deliver excellence under the tightest time constraint. Woodhall Press is proud to present CCSU's A Summer That Can Change Your Life.

Fiction or Nonfiction? Nonfiction, baby! My life's got enough fodder to fill volumes! Is it harder to write funny or sad? Sad, Dude. Fiction or Nonfiction? Nonfiction. I have a new memoir just out, Starting with Goodbye: A Daughter’s Memoir of Love after Loss. For reading, both. I love a fat novel! Is it harder to write funny or sad? Funny is much harder than sad. Sad is universal and has its own shorthand. Funny is hugely subjective and idiosyncratic. It’s very had to nail funny. Long form or short form? Both! Depends on what I’m writing. The story usually tells me what length or form it wants to be. Poetry or prose? I write prose 90% of the time. But I’m a dabbling poet. Fiction or Nonfiction? Even though I am more of a nonfiction writer, fiction can be a fun way to process break-ups! For example, in most places it is illegal to destroy the soul of a former lover through human sacrifice involving biting flies, jumping spiders and other devilish insects. But in fiction, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! Is it harder to write funny or sad? With the current state of the world, it is easy to find 857,000 things to be sad about… Long form or short form? Lately, I like to get pulled in and carried along in long form work. Poetry or prose? I am so impressed with poets!
